About

Second City Vegan started out as a place for all things pertaining to veganism/vegetarianism in Chicago, but since it’s dwindled down to one person, with occasional posts from others, it’s become more personal .

Now not only will you findย tried and tested vegan recipes, info on local events, local restaurant reviews, cookbook/animal rights book reviews, etc. here, you’ll also find out what my life as a vegan is like.

Thanks for reading!

Lisa

  1. You all started this blog shortly after I moved, I think. I’m *still* terribly homesick, and it’s nice to have your site as a way to see what’s going on with the vegan community I left behind.

  2. Have you checked out the new vegan cookie bakery in Lincoln Square…Hillary’s Cookies? She makes both Vegan & Non-Vegan Cookies, and they are really, really good! They’re also available at Whole Foods but if you’re in the area of Lincoln and Argyle, stop by Hillary’s Cookies.

  3. Hi Lisa,
Just found out about a new Vegan Thai Restaurant. Have you had a chance to try it yet? I’m hoping to get there this week. Got great reviews on Yelp.

    1. A friend of mine’s already been there 3 times! Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but I’m planning on heading over there next week ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Hi Lisa,

Had a chance to stop at Urban Vegan today for lunch. Great food! The menu is huge–so many things to choose.
I opted for the “Grand Tempura” appetizer. Crispy fried broccoli, eggplant, pumpkin (yes pumpkin), zucchini, and these cute little “soy shrimp” DELISH.
I also ordered a Papaya Salad. Very light and refreshing and they can adjust the heat to your taste.
    Do give it a try.

  5. Hi Lisa,
Have you been to Native Foods Cafe yet?Wicker Park location just opened. I’m trying to get over there soon. The Belmont location will be opened the end of August and the south Loop (very close to my office) in October! I learned about them from your post. Thanks!
Give us a review when you get there.

  6. This will be my first year attending Vegan Mania on the 5th. Have you ever been? What should I expect? Looks like a great time.

    1. I have and it is a great time! I just made a post about it and about a film screening the same night. Basically expect lots of good food and lots of vegan vendors ๐Ÿ™‚
